Humboldt High School

Through a collaborative planning process, TESSERE partnered with Humboldt School District to transform its high school into a safer, more accessible, and future-ready learning environment. Originally constructed in 1922, Humboldt High School has served generations of students, making it important to preserve the building’s legacy while adapting to meet modern educational needs. 

Focused on safety, accessibility, and functionality, key improvements included the addition of a new fire-rated stair tower, modern elevator, and full-service restrooms on each floor, including gender-neutral options. These improvements significantly enhanced emergency egress and ADA accessibility throughout the building. 

The project also included additional upgrades such as a new secure entryway, expanded cafeteria, updated administrative offices, ADA-compliant chemistry labs, improved storage in the home economics classroom, and a new interior courtyard. Together, these enhancements provide modern, flexible spaces that support learning, collaboration, and student well-being for years to come.
