Hangar 16 at Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport involved a 5,000-square-foot renovation and reconfiguration for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The work focused on modernizing the existing interior to meet the 2018 CBP General Aviation Facilities Design Standards, creating a secure and efficient environment that supports the agency’s operational and regulatory requirements.
The interior renovations included selective demolition and a reorganization of space to establish clearly separated passenger pre-processing and post-processing areas. The reconfigured plan improves workflow, security, and the overall passenger experience. The new layout also incorporates a dedicated processing counter, a secure SLAN room, and supporting spaces designed in close coordination with CBP and other regulatory agencies.
Building system upgrades were integrated throughout the project, including a new fire riser and updated fire protection systems with a dedicated dry suppression system for the computer and SLAN rooms. Mechanical and electrical improvements included a new gas generator, split-system HVAC, and updated lighting and ductwork.
Through careful coordination and design, TESSERE transformed an existing hangar interior into a modern, efficient, and fully compliant CBP facility, supporting mission-critical operations within an active airport environment.
