TESSERE provided architectural services for the complete renovation of 40,700 square feet on the seventh floor of the St. Francis hospital into a cancer institute—a “hospital within a hospital.”
The renovated space contains 40 spacious private patient rooms, including two radiation therapy rooms with private bathrooms and six private bone marrow rooms; ambulatory infusion center with four private and three community treatment bays; integrated therapy rooms with dedicated spaces for yoga, art and massage therapy, as well as a laugh therapy room consisting of a media room designed in collaboration with Warren Theatres; two family gathering rooms, temporary family sleep quarters and a family laundry center; a cancer education and resource center with internet access; and administrative spaces.
The environment was designed to not only encourage healing through individual care, but also by focusing on the well-being of the entire family.
Evidenced-based design principles were utilized for the design and functional layout to ensure the most appropriate, efficient and functional use of space.
