A group of seven physicians observed Wichita’s need to quickly accommodate ER patients, in which the idea of a new emergency department was born. The Freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center for Kansas Medical Center in Andover, KS consisted of the construction of the new 13,774-square-foot standalone surgical center. The facility contains 6 operating rooms, 15 pre-operative and postoperative areas, including on-site sterile processing space.

Project Details

TESSERE also provided complete planning and design services for the original 90,000-square-foot medical center in Andover, which provides acute care, cardiac care, radiology, nuclear medicine, intensive care, and other services. The $22.5 million facility contains 58 patient beds, ten ICU beds, three operating suites, three special procedure rooms, ten pre-op/recovery beds, an emergency area, two cath labs, six OR suites, a pharmacy, and a restaurant for patient nutrition and public dining.

The original Kansas Medical Center received the HealthGrades “Outstanding Patient Experience Award” from 2009 to 2014, placing it among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide based on an analysis of patient satisfaction data. In addition to receiving praise from its users, the building has also received positive attention from other medical groups in the area. Ranked in Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals in 2016.
