Fire Station 73 represents a targeted yet impactful reinvestment in Shawnee’s public safety infrastructure. Guided by TESSERE’s comprehensive study of the City’s fire department facilities, the renovation focuses on improving functionality, safety, and firefighter well‑being within the constraints of an existing, limited footprint.
The project includes strategic additions and interior upgrades that enhance operational efficiency while applying modern fire station design principles. Hot Zone separation and decontamination strategies are incorporated to help limit the transfer of contaminants, while updated living and support spaces incorporate natural materials, improved daylighting, and refined bunking configurations to support mental and behavioral health.
Renovating an aging facility while meeting contemporary standards presented unique challenges, requiring careful coordination and planning. TESSERE worked closely with the Construction Manager to establish clear budgets, manage constraints, and deliver the project on schedule.
Together with Fire Station 71, the renovation of Fire Station 73 reflects the City of Shawnee’s commitment to firefighter wellness, operational readiness, and long‑term resilience, ensuring facilities that are prepared to support those who serve the community every day.
