TESSERE collaborated closely with the City of Lee’s Summit to design a replacement facility for Fire Station 5, the City’s southernmost station and one of its oldest. The existing facility no longer met modern design standards and lacked the space necessary to adequately support firefighting operations and personnel.
Similar to Fire Station 4, Fire Station 5 was developed on a small site of approximately one acre, driving the need for a highly efficient two-story building solution. To streamline the design and construction process while maintaining consistency across facilities, the project was developed as part of a single prototypical fire station design that was also implemented at Fire Station 4.
The design incorporates industry best practices for contaminant control through Hot Zone planning strategies, creating a safer and healthier work environment. Methodologies focused on improving mental and behavioral health, as well as reducing sleep deprivation, were also integrated.
Throughout each phase of the project, TESSERE worked closely with the Construction Manager to evaluate design solutions and cost feasibility, supporting a collaborative approach that balanced City goals, operational needs, and long-term value.
