Kansas Department of Transportation, Kechi Subarea Complex

Kechi, KS

The Subarea Complex for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Kechi is a series of structures designed to efficiently support KDOT’s long‑term mission of maintaining and servicing Kansas highways. This facility was one of three recent projects completed for KDOT, with TESSERE providing architecture, civil engineering, interior design, landscape architecture, LEED consulting, cost estimating, construction administration, site planning, and project management services.

The main administration facility is a 20,000‑square‑foot pre‑engineered metal building that includes seven vehicle bays, a wash bay, two crew and tool bays, and offices. Additional supporting structures include two storage barns, a salt bunker, a sand bunker, and a fuel island with dual pumps. Construction of the complex was completed in 2017.
