Kansas Heart Hospital

TESSERE provided complete architectural and engineering services for this specialty hospital in northeast Wichita, Kansas. Formed by a cardiologist and a cardiac surgeon, this center provides state-of-the-art medical services. The hospital as originally constructed contained 47,000 square feet with 22 patient beds, three OR’s, ten ICU beds and two Cath Labs. Also included were an in-patient suite, recovery area, surgery suite, pharmacy, laboratory and other support areas.

Project Details

A 9,490-square-foot expansion was later completed to accommodate four additional ICU rooms, Pre-Op, one additional Cath Lab and one additional OR, as well as ten additional patient rooms. A recent 8,000-square-foot addition contains a conference room, locker/lounge, CT scanner, and quality assurance areas. An upgrade and remodel of the cafeteria was recently completed.

The Kansas Heart Office Plaza, a 50,500-squarefoot medical office building, houses two cardiology groups and a surgical practice. It includes a lobby/ waiting area, a nurse station, exam rooms, diagnostic rooms and treatment rooms. Office and administrative support spaces include a business office, medical transcription office and a filing room.

The design of the facility coordinated common spaces between the three practices, such as the lobby, waiting and reception area, as well as the designated spaces for each group.
