VOLAR and UEPH barracks design
TESSERE has designed several new housing facilities at Fort Riley, Kansas, including a renovation of 13 existing VOLAR (Volunteer Army) barracks into one-bedroom dwelling units with individual baths and kitchens and a complex of eight Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel (UEPH) barracks with two-bedroom modules containing shared kitchen and bathrooms. One of our greatest concerns in designing barracks is to create a desirable place to live for military service members. We’ve met this need by designing a variety of barracks with an emphasis on neighborhood characteristics, exterior aesthetics, human scale, and inviting outdoor features to encourage leisure and socialization.
