Emporia Fire Station.

Emporia Fire Station 1

Emporia, KS

The Civic Auditorium anchors a cluster of essential civic offices in downtown Emporia, including the community’s fire station. As the city grew, the existing station could no longer expand to meet modern operational demands, prompting a replacement adjacent to the auditorium to preserve coverage and response times.

The new 25,000‑square‑foot fire station is purpose-built around fire service operations, where the design is focused on efficiency, decontamination, and integrated training elements. The design also incorporates wellness strategies such as abundant daylight and individual sleeping rooms, to support mental and behavioral health.

Architecturally, the station bridges the downtown civic fabric and the surrounding residential neighborhood. A combination of flat parapets and pitched hip roofs blends contemporary civic expression with neighborhood scale, while durable materials of brick and stone complement nearby historic structures and reinforce long-term resilience.
