Fire Station 2 is undergoing a comprehensive modernization to address growing space and functional limitations within the existing facility. The Emporia Fire Department is implementing a phased renovation strategy that allows the station to remain fully operational throughout construction. New additions are being constructed first and will be occupied upon completion, enabling crews to transition into updated spaces while remaining portions of the station are renovated and reprogrammed. This approach minimizes disruption, avoids displacement, and preserves critical emergency response capabilities.
The design of Fire Station 2 is closely aligned with the new Fire Station 1, reinforcing a cohesive identity across the Fire Department’s facilities. Shared design principles guide the layout, programming, and functionality of both stations, promoting consistency in operations, efficiency, and the day‑to‑day experience of firefighters.
Architecturally, Fire Station 2 reflects the same blended approach established at Fire Station 1, merging elements of American civic architecture with industrial design influences. This unified design language creates a recognizable presence and strengthens the station’s connection to the surrounding community.
