An Anchor for the Community
When community leaders envisioned expanding the Boys & Girls Club in Wichita, they found a natural fit on Opportunity Drive. This facility became an anchor for the emerging Empowerment Zone, a vibrant hub for neighborhood activity, providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children and teens.
The 41,200‑square‑foot facility includes dedicated areas for study, dining, and recreation. Space consists of classrooms and recreational areas including a gymnasium, sports field, high-tech art room, music room, and theater. Administrative offices and multipurpose gathering areas help the Club accommodate a range of services and events.
A key component of the project is a large gymnasium/multipurpose room with adjacent lockers and shower facilities. Outdoors, a full‑size football and soccer field, along with three smaller cross‑field soccer layouts, expands athletic programming for all ages. The field features drainable artificial turf, field lighting, bleachers, and a scoreboard.
The Jordan Haines Multipurpose Facility further enhances the campus with a basketball court, bleachers, locker and shower rooms, a performance stage, and a dedicated “disc jockey” area designed for teen dances and community events.
