Wichita State University - Innovation Campus
TESSERE designed this two-story, 89,000-square-foot facility for Airbus and Wichita State University, creating a dynamic workplace for 400 aviation structural engineers. This Class A building serves as a public-private collaboration on the Innovation Campus, bringing real-world industry experience directly to the university. The leading-edge experiential learning model expands on-the-job training and internship opportunities for students while giving employers direct access to emerging talent.
Several design features were incorporated to foster collaboration. The open office layout includes low-height workstations and strategically placed breakout areas. High ceilings, an expansive lobby that spans the length of the building, and extensive daylighting provided by ribbon windows, dual glass entries, and skylights create an inviting, modern atmosphere. A wide main-level corridor encourages foot traffic, drawing students through the building as they move across campus and strengthening the connection between industry and academic life.
