Advanced Learning Library designed by TESSERE

Advanced Learning Library

Wichita, KS

Reinventing the traditional library concept

Breaking down the traditional model of the library as a “warehouse for books,” the new 106,500-square-foot Advanced Learning Library is instead a broad-spectrum community hub. It includes sections for technology, teen/youth, and children. There are also areas for nonfiction, genealogy/local history, community meeting areas, a café, and classrooms. The design and location for the Advanced Learning Library enhance its presence as a community hub.

Throughout the facility, technology abounds, allowing both young and old opportunities to learn together. Around the perimeter of the library, there is public art, a children’s garden, lush landscaping, and plenty of parking. On the second floor of the learning library, an outdoor roof patio allows patrons the opportunity to enjoy their time in an open-air environment.

A critical aspect of the project included incorporation and coordination of public art both inside and outside of the library.  TESSERE worked closely with several artists early and throughout the projects’ development to ensure an integrated design process that resulted in seamless art installations.
