When a building serves its community for more than 30 years, it becomes more than just a place—it becomes part of the neighborhood. That’s exactly the case with Schofield Honda’s west side service center, a familiar fixture in west Wichita since 1994. With deep roots in the community, Schofield Honda saw an opportunity to reinvest in the location and reaffirm their commitment to west Wichita—this time with a focus on both customer experience and operational efficiency.

A Shift in Function, A Step Toward the Future

Unlike a traditional dealership, this location operates solely as a service center. While its core function remained the same, Schofield Honda was ready to reimagine how the space could better serve customers—by modernizing its appearance, improving operational flow, and creating a more welcoming environment for both customers and staff.

To support this vision, they restructured operations by relocating warranty work to a nearby facility and dedicating the original building exclusively to express services like oil changes and minor repairs. This shift opened the door for a more efficient layout, focused on streamlined service and a customer-first approach.

Customer-First Design

What was once a closed-off, utilitarian service bay has become a bright, open, and customer-focused space. The south side of the building was reimagined with new glazing, welcoming natural light into a lounge equipped with a coffee bar, kids’ zone, tech counter, and upgraded restrooms. A once-cramped vestibule was removed in favor of a new entry experience that makes it easier—and more pleasant—for customers to come and go.

Outside, improved ADA access, clearer circulation, and upgraded site grading and drainage make the entire facility more functional and inviting. The refreshed exterior reestablish the building as a corner presence in west Wichita.

Embodying the Honda Brand

One of the unique aspects of this project was the opportunity to collaborate with Honda’s national brand architect, ChangeUp. The TESSERE team worked closely with both ChangeUp and Schofield to craft a design that honored Honda’s brand standards while still reflecting Schofield’s specific goals for the space. It was a true collaboration—rooted in flexibility, trust, and a shared vision for a facility that looks great, functions seamlessly, and stays true to the identity of both the brand and the local business.

Lessons in Partnership and Preparation

In many ways, this project was more than a building renovation. It was about building the foundation for a new relationship. As first-time partners with Schofield Honda, we had the opportunity to help guide them through a complex process and deliver a space that balances brand expectations with local personality. Even within the boundaries of a national brand, there was room for creativity, adaptation, and local identity that reflected the client’s unique story.

Schofield Honda’s newly reimagined west side service center doesn’t just meet the needs of today—it sets the tone for tomorrow. And at TESSERE, we’re proud to have helped shape that future.
