Coffeyville Community College is a comprehensive two‑year public institution of post-secondary learning in rural southeast Kansas. After receiving a generous donation to support the creation of a new wellness center serving both students and the broader community, the College selected TESSERE. A detailed programming phase defined project priorities, including the development of a storm‑resistant facility which was critical given the region’s vulnerability to tornadoes. Another key component of the project was a partnership with the local hospital to integrate health and wellness services.
Because the chosen site had significant utility constraints, the design evolved into a long, rectilinear two‑story layout, which ultimately proved well suited to the program requirements. The proposed 71,000‑square‑foot Wellness Center includes a multi‑court gymnasium with an elevated walking track that also functions as a storm shelter, a physical therapy gym, weight and cardio spaces, athletic training and evaluation areas, a student health center, student bookstore, juice bar, esports venue, rock climbing wall, and multiple meeting rooms and classrooms.
