Neighborhood development and revitalization design along commercial street in Historic Delano District.
Based on an outline of goals and objectives for neighborhood development and revitalization developed by the Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Department, TESSERE designed major improvements to the historic section of West Douglas between McLean and Seneca, known as the Delano District in Wichita.
Project Details
The project was part of the city’s Capital Improvement Program, and included rebuilding a section of the main commercial street to provide for diagonal parking, new sidewalks, landscaping, accessible ramps, pedestrian benches, historical markers, period street lights and a gateway entrance. A traffic roundabout was designed with a clock tower on the traffic island.
