Neighborhood development and revitalization design along commercial street in Historic Delano District.
Based on goals and objectives for neighborhood revitalization developed by the Wichita–Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Department, TESSERE designed significant streetscape improvements for the historic section of West Douglas between McLean and Seneca, known as Wichita’s Delano District.
As part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program, the project transformed a key segment of the district’s main commercial corridor. Enhancements included reconstructed streets with diagonal parking, new sidewalks, accessible ramps, landscaping, pedestrian benches, historical markers, period street lights, and a welcoming gateway feature. A new traffic roundabout was also designed, featuring a central clock tower that serves as a recognizable landmark for the district.
